These beautiful handmade necklaces are made by Syrian Armenian women now living in Armenia. This handcrafted jewelry plays a role in the preservation of traditional Armenian needlework techniques. This delicate "Star" motif and indeed the needlework specific to the Aintab region of Western Armenia is said to have been introduced by a Norwegian missionary. Aintab embroidery, or Armenian whitework, is a style of drawn thread work embroidery that is based on removing threads from a fabric and weaving a variety of patterns with those threads.
