These beautiful handicraft necklaces are made by Syrian Armenian women now living in Armenia. Each one of these necklaces plays a role in the preservation of traditional Armenian needlework techniques. This delicate "Star" motif and indeed the needlework specific to the Aintab region is said to have been introduced by a Norwegian missionary. Aintab embroidery, or Armenian whitework, is a style of drawn thread work embroidery that is based on removing threads from a fabric and weaving a variety of patterns with those threads.
